Certifications:

• Required Education:
  • Completion of a Surgical Technologist Education Program. OR
  • 3 years of Surgical Technologist experience within the past five (5) years.
• BLS (American Heart Assoc.) is required.
• Preferred Certifications & Licensure:
  • Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) through NBSTSA OR Tech in Surgery-Certified (TS-C) through NCCT.

Mandatory Experience:

• Required: 2+ years of experience CVOR
• 2 years of experience minimum.
• Contact with physicians, families, and other hospital personnel related to care of assigned patients.
• Sound judgment and knowledge of scientific principles must be used.
• Competency in selected skills is required through hospital provided instruction.
• Frequent exposure to stressful patient situations requires the ability to maintain composure in order to respond swiftly and effectively to patient needs.
• Demonstrates the knowledge, abilities, and skills to provide age and culturally specific patient care and education.
• Effectively communicates with peers, utilizes appropriate channels of communication and maintains absolute confidentiality.
• Maintains competence and demonstrates evidence of continuing professional growth.

• Responsible for knowledge, use, care, and handling of surgical instruments.

• Shift: 4x10s 6:15AM-4:45PM; Call is one 1st call per week (end of shift until 11:00 pm), maybe one 2nd call per week (end of shift until 7:00 pm).
• Weekend call is every 5-6 weekends and is from 3:00 pm (or end of shift) on Friday to 0615 on Monday morning.
• On the week following weekend call, there is overnight call on Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night, and Thursday night (11:00 pm – 6:15 am).
• Transplant call is 2-3 12 hour calls per 4 weeks (12 hours overnight or 12 hours on the weekends).
• This call is only utilized in the case of a heart transplant.
