Job Summary
Emergency Department Physician
Location: G.V. (Sonny) Montgomery VA Medical Center, Jackson, MS
Contract Period: 12 Months from the date of award
Schedule: 24/7 coverage, including weekends and holidays
Work Hours & Staffing:
- The ED operates 24/7, 365 days a year.
- Physicians will be assigned to shifts covering day, evening, overnight, and holiday hours.
Primary Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Provide emergency medical care, including evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment of urgent and emergent conditions.
- Administer life-saving interventions, resuscitation, and stabilization procedures.
- Perform minor and major procedures such as laceration repair, wound care, intubation, and central line placement.
- Manage complex cases, including cardiac emergencies, trauma, neurological crises, and respiratory distress.
- Order and interpret diagnostic tests, imaging studies, and laboratory results.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to ensure optimal patient care.
- Supervise and provide consultation to mid-level providers (PAs/NPs).
- Document all patient encounters in the VA's Electronic Health Record (EHR) system.
- Adhere to all VA policies, including HIPAA and patient safety regulations.
- Participate in quality improvement and performance monitoring activities.
Minimum Qualifications
Qualifications:
- Board Certification/Eligibility:
- Emergency Medicine: Strongly preferred.
- Family Medicine or Internal Medicine: Must have at least 2 years of recent ED experience within the past 5 years.
- Licensure: Must hold a full, unrestricted license in any U.S. state or territory.
- Certifications:
- Basic Life Support (BLS)
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
- Credentialing & Privileging: Must meet all VA credentialing requirements before beginning work.
- Experience: Proficiency in emergency medicine procedures and ability to manage a high-volume ED.
- Training Compliance: Must complete all VA-mandated training, including EHR training.
